This thread is for discussion of all three CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers. I thought that it would be easier to have one thread that everyone can talk in about the Hexagonal instead of three separate threads. Any feedback and suggestions are appreciated.

VVVVVV (7 copies) and Super Hexagon (7 copies too)

Published at

Greetings!

VVVVVV and Super Hexagon are incredibly good indie games that do not get nearly as much exposure as they deserve. Hopefully this giveaway will help players play them and then "play-it-forward" to others.

VVVVVV is a puzzle platformer with "retro" graphics. "Retro" here being the nice way of saying it looks like a game from the 80's. There is little storytelling, no graphics, but the music is incredible and the gameplay is spectacular. Your controls are limited to three: Move left, move right, and flip gravity, but the puzzles and levels will be overwhelming, even with the ultra-simple controls. You will die. A lot. In fact, you will die a few hundred times, or maybe a few thousand times if you want to get all the achievements. It is a very difficult game, but if you persevere and finish the game, it will be the most satisfying gaming experience you will have felt since the last time you finished Super Mario World.

Super Hexagon is not a game, as much as it is an instrument for torture. You control a tiny triangle that you can move left and right, as the walls close in on you. The speedy gameplay requires extremely good timing and catlike reflexes, and you will be punished for any tiny mistake. It is a very, very, VERY difficult game, but the music is awesome, and you can view it as an achievement to brag about... if you can finish it. (I only finished one level so far).

I have seven copies of each, and this thread will be open for about 24 hours from the time of this post, or less if there are enough replies. Take a look at some gameplay videos to see if you like the graphics and difficulty, and if you do, post which one you prefer to win.

There are no rules or requirements to win, other than the rules on the sidebar. Just post, and I will random 14 winners. If you like, you can name a good book for me to read (I like classics) or a nice movie to watch, but the winners will all still be fully random.

Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to add that this will be on Steam. Edit-of-edit: So please make sure you have your Steam profile in your flair.

Edit2: It has been about 22 hours, so I will take the current users who entered and random 14 winners. The last person to post was Aiden6.

WINNERS

Alrighty folks! We've got some winners here! They are as follows:

Waveform: Countdown369 I mean, like, penguins? That's an unfair advantage; but hey. Them's the breaks.

Hydrophobia: johncacoon Did you see these giraffes? LOOK AT THEM! LOOOOOK AT THEM!

Turba: v3tr0x Number was randomly chosen by yelling at my roommate. Answer was "13 dude fuck quit yelling". With the (first) answer 99, v3tr0x is the winner! Because, as you might have guessed, No. BETWEEN 1 and 100 does not include 1 and 100.

Super Hexagon: Li_Tomn_Gimnarf I feel bad. I really do. But this is honestly the joke that got me to laugh the best. I didn't want to; but that's what went down. "So when I grow up, I'm going to have my kids to be friends with all the colors of the rainbow. ...so no black people."

Portal: Sydarmx Just watch it. I promise

Super Secret Bonus Game: soundstage For his clever chemical reaction .gif, I'll be offering soundstage here Bastion!

Hey guys! I've got some copies I picked up during sales, so it's time to give them away! All games are Steam, and winners will need to do the following:

  • Have a Reddit Account 2 months old. (minimum, lol)
  • Send me a link to your Steam Account so's there's no sketchy going on.
  • Only have entered for one game.

So, what I'm looking for YOU to do is post something based on the game you want. Want Waveform? Well, I'd like to know about your job. Coolest sounding job wins.

Portal? Your favorite reaction .gif, please.

Turba: Guess a number between 1-100. FARTHEST away from mine wins. (It's not 50.)

Super Hexagon? I'mma need a joke. The one that makes me laugh hardest wins.

Hydrophobia: Draw me a giraffe. I like them.

I know this is kinda stupid, but hey. It's my show.

Deadline is: 1500 MST / 2100 UTC 18 July 2013.

Good luck!

Edit: Oh lol. This is going to be a hard descision, but I'm really enjoying what you guys are coming up with!

Edit2: Getting off early today! That means 2 hours earlier, and maybe a secret bonus game! ;)

edit3: not as early as I thought. Winners being picked and contacted now!

Open Hexagon is a free open-source clone of the game "Super Hexagon by Terry Cavanagh".

Gameplay is easy to learn but hard to master.

You control a triangle that rotates around the center of the screen. Your goal is to stay alive as long as possible by avoiding the walls that go towards the center.

Features JSON and LUA scripting for complete customization and level sharing.

Features online leaderboards, friend score tracking system, in-game parameter customization.

1.9 gameplay video:

Hello /r/linux_gaming, today I've released a multi-architecture .tar.xf binary archive of my game, Open Hexagon, version 1.92.

I've tested it both on Linux Mint x86 and Linux Mint x64, and it seems to work properly.

Download at: http://vittorioromeo.info/projects.html

Discuss, share your creations: http://www.facebook.com/OpenHexagon

GitHub: https://github.com/SuperV1234/SSVOpenHexagon

To play, simply extract the archive, then execute the OpenHexagon script.

Report here any problem, and I'll do my best to fix it.

Have fun!

EDIT:

As my distribution/releasing skills aren't exactly great, I was wondering if anyone is interested in packaging and distributing the game for its favorite distro. If you are interested, please post here or send me a PM, and I'll give you the instructions to compile with online scores enabled :)

CONTEST CLOSED

Its simple really, just take a guess and if you guess correctly you get a $5 (with shipping) prize. There is a handy calculator on the internet so instead of telling you how big its going to be or the size of the hexagons here are some pictures. One guess per person please and the Reddit Raffle tag is "my hands are now claws" if no one gets it after 24 hours.

Edit:

I have decided that if you can guess the correct number you get a $10 prize and if I have to raffle it will be only $5.

Edit 2:

Ok, here is a detailed picture of one of the sections, and I will allow people to revise their guess because most of you are off by a few.... thousand

Edit 3:

No, we don't smoke inside our apartment, our landlord painted our apartment "smoker white"

this contest is now closed. I am reviewing people's gusses and I will let you all know just how many hexagons I will use in this quilt

I just bought this game today and I've really been enjoying it, so I figured I'd spread some joy. Here's how this is going to work: after the first hour or so of this post being up, I'll give away three keys using redditraffle. Those winners then have to try and beat my high score in the game, and for every person who beats my score I'll give away an additional copy! This means you actually have to play Super Hexagon, not just stick it in your inventory. Even if you don't beat my high score let me know if you liked it or not :D

My current high score is 66:58, come at me bros

Edit: I forgot to mention, this game is hard as FUCK. Prepare to rage.

Alright, our first three winners are... drumroll please

/u/MonstaMasha, /u/rbaldy41, and /u/Yehaw4Jihad!

I'll continue to give away games for the next 24 hours or so, assuming people can beat my score of course ;)

Edit: Bad news guys, humble bundle is says I can only purchase a limited number of copies right now... I'll try and get some more tomorrow :/

So, this is a new thing I plan to run every week for all the NerdCubed fans out there.

Every Saturday I'll be giving away a Steam copy of a game Dan has done a video on. Wether it be a small game or a AAA game like Far Cry 3. The competition will be open for exactly a week. The winner will then be announced on the post which will be for the next giveaway and so on! I'll be running this every week for the foreseeable future.

This weeks prize is Super Hexagon. Here's the video Dan did on it if you'd don't know/remember: http://youtu.be/iaeK9ZTh_OY - You will also be make "Player of the Week" on the Nerd³ Steam Group (If you're a member).

A Few Rules:

  1. You will be disqualified if you enter more then once.

  2. Everybody who is a subscriber to 'OfficiallyNerdCubed' on YouTube is eligible to enter (Except for me and Dan of course).

  3. The winner will be chosen at random using a random number generator.

Now, here's the link to the Google Docs form for you to fill in to enter! Before anybody complains, yes it goes through AdFly - But it's because I want to try and make this self-sustaining as I'm not exactly rich. :p I shall be making no money off this, if I start to make a profit that money will be spent on more or bigger game to giveaway. So please, disable AdBlocker before clicking the link. :p

Link to Enter:

http://adf.ly/G1LkL

UPDATE: Please make sure you have Steam Guard turned on as we cannot trade otherwise. If you turn it on then you'll be able to trade 15 days later (Bloody annoying). So make sure it's on if you want your prize!

"You are a triangle."

Fast paced, challenging, free to play, open source game.

Open Hexagon is my first completed game.

It's a fast paced fun clone of Super Hexagon (by Terry Cavanagh).

The goal of the game is to survive as long as possible, by avoiding the walls closing in towards the center. You are the little triangle, and can rotate by using the left/right arrow keys.

The soundtrack is made by BOSSFIGHT.

The game is completely customizable: you can create and share levels/patterns/styles/music. Everything can be modified and created with your favorite text editor, thanks to the simple JSON language.

You can download it here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3724424/OpenHexagonV1.7z Mirror: http://www.mediafire.com/?a0ra1ud6s827a8a

Requirements: Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679

Installation: Simply extract the contents of the compressed file in a folder. Open SSVOpenHexagon.exe to play.

If the game doesn't start correctly, or you prefer windowed mode, open "config.json" with your favorite text editor, and change "fullscreen" to false.

If you need further assistance post on the official page: http://www.facebook.com/OpenHexagon

How to play: In the menu, press the left and right arrow keys to choose levels. Press enter to play.

In game, press the left and right arrow keys to rotate. Avoid the walls! Press R to restart. Press ESC to go back to the menu.

Source code is available on my GitHub page: https://github.com/SuperV1234

Thanks for playing Open Hexagon!

I want to make clear that the resemblance to the original game is very high (it is, after all, a clone), even if it's not an exact copy.

I've credited Terry Cavanagh everywhere I could, and I don't want my game to be competition, but a tribute to his work. I got his permission to make a "Super Hexagon inspired game", I just hope this is not stretching it.

If you like Open Hexagon, please check out Super Hexagon.

Update 1.82a released!
