Though common in early Christian iconography, it was ultimately supplanted by the <a class='ex' href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chi_Rho'>Chi Ro</a>, perhaps due to the latter's <a class='ex' href='http://kahalyahweh.net/Articles/chirho.htm'>prior history</a> as a pagan-era symbol.
